Ford Motor Company may be sending people home to watch a lot of television in the coming months but Dave Piontek will tell you that you can still get a lot done while watching the old boob tube. He was just sitting around watching an old episode of American Chopper when he suddenly has an intuitive flash which changed history. All the boys, Paul Sr., Jr., and even Mikey were, at least "theoretically," working on one of those V-Twins. Dave suddenly thought how cool it would be to drop one of those V-Twins into a space frame chassis and the rest is American history.
Like many other discouraged, former Ford employees, Dave had wanted to find a new direction in life. After he went through his “Eureka” moment in front of the television, he shared the idea with two of his engineering buddies, Jay Novak and Kip Ewing. Everything just took off from there. The three of them got together in the garage and came up with the prototype for the Twintech which is now amazing race car enthusiasts all over the country.
The Twintech has the best of both worlds because it combines V-Twin motorcycle power in a purpose built vehicle. It’s powered by an S&S 124 engine with 125 hp and 125 foot pounds of torque. The three creators didn’t scrimp when they chose the components and they have actually finished a very beautiful car. From upwards of $50,000 for the turnkey and $20,000 for the kit, it is very well done and worth every penny.
Just like the custom motorcycles at American Chopper, this Twintech vehicle is drawn according to the color and theme that you choose for yourself. You also get to choose the engine, lights, fenders, seat fabric, steering wheel, wheels and tires. They have a new frame with 2” main tubes that includes a styled rear storage compartment, engine mounted 5 speed transmission and available limited slip rear axle. It’s just like Mikey at American Chopper would offer you if you were to wake him up in the early afternoon!
They guys at Twintech are experienced just like old “Paul Sr.” and have years of design, fabrication and development time in this car. It has a new 120 inch Screamin’ Eagle by Harley Davidson turned sideways so you will know what is coming down the road. A four-speed transaxle is mounted in the rear for optimal weight distribution of 50/50. It can also do 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds and 1.1g on the skid pad.
Working out of Brighton, Michigan, the three of these guys have racing and engineering expertise in formula racers and production cars. They see the V-Twin as a trackday car similar to the Ariel Atom and Deronda F400. Even though most similar sports cars use a Japanese motorcycle engine, the TwinTech V-Twin uses an S&S V-twin mounted at the extreme front of the car. This is what gives it the perfect 50-50 weight distribution for great balance and handling. You can learn more about the TwinTech by checking out the Web site at www.twintechcars.com.
